Practice Areas
Ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat
(The burden of proof is on he who declares, not on he who denies)
~ Roman Common Law
Unlike other areas of practice, such as contract and real property law, criminal law is constantly changing. While a 50-year old trial can set a precedent for a corporate case, a 1-month old trial may be too old for use in criminal defense. A successful firm must continually expand its knowledge base regarding new case law and courtroom practice, which is why the Law Firm of Steven C. Bullock is devoted to pursuing the latest knowledge in the following practice areas:
- Criminal Defense
- Drunk Driving
- Drug Crimes
- Domestic Violence
- Assault Crimes
- Juvenile Offenses
- Murder
- Weapons Offenses
- Robbery
- Divorce Law

Criminal defense covers many categories of offenses, most of which are punishable by imprisonment. This includes misdemeanors, which are punishable by up to 93 days of jail time under Michigan law, as well as felonies, which are punishable by up to life in prison. Although capital punishment was abolished by the State of Michigan in 1847, traditionally capital offenses, such as first-degree murder, are also covered by this category. Many of our more specific areas of practice, such as those listed above (excluding divorce law) fall under this category, as well as other crimes, such as rape, kidnapping, and white collar offenses, for which we also defend.
Divorce law is a category of family law that deals with the dissolution of the marriage agreement. Although Michigan law allows for no-fault divorces, the process can be complex and requires varying degrees of legal counsel and assistance. A divorce can also result in related legal proceedings, such as those pertaining to child custody and alimony. Attorney Bullock can walk you through any and all legal proceedings resulting from the decision to divorce.
